Morning session, with Efrem Smith as the keynote on “The Beloved Church / The Beloved Community.”  So many money quotes.

– What a bunch of 20-something kids of European descent are calling the “emerging church” isn’t new.  Unnamed slaves were living missional and monastic lifestyles a long time ago.

– “In the church,we won’t even call Martin Luther King Jr. a theologian, we call him a mystic.”  Why?

“If we really believed we were God’s beloved, we wouldn’t have to overcompensate by oppressing another group.”

– “I don’t want any European American to live in shame over the race issue.  I want us all to see beyond it, and see our beloved identity in the Kingdom.”
