I’m in a workship session on: “Social Entrepeneurship: Using Business to Advance God’s Kingdom”

– Not tons of new information – a lot of the companies that are out there (i.e. Pura Vida coffee, Ben & Jerry’s, Grameen Bank) are well known. However, it’s been a really good group discussion, dispelling a lot of the idealistic tendencies of social business ideas. Many good-hearted efforts are made without sustainable business sense, which leads to failure.

– It’s really important to marry good business sense with compassion and justice.

– We need to be more realistic with the problems we’re trying to address. Scaling a business sometimes means taking some of your “profits” that you want to give away, and putting them back into the business so that you can take things to higher levels.
